What it does
Gives a physical thing an identity a system can read, and makes that identity mean the same thing to everyone who reads it.
In an operation
A pallet leaves a supplier carrying an identifier its customer's system already recognises, so receiving does not have to guess.

How the credential is governed
The rules that decide what an Auto DigitID credential is worth, and that do not move.
- One standardThere is one assessment per level. The learning route somebody took does not change it, and there is no lesser version of a credential for people who bought less support.
- Public verificationEvery certificate carries an ID and a QR code, and anyone can check it without an account. A credential nobody can verify is a claim.
- Framework-versionedAn issued certificate stays tied to the framework release printed on it, so what it certified remains legible years later even as the curriculum moves.
